In the middle of French house restoration nightmares and dust and detritus, I need to open some boxes and look at stuff, even if I can’t put everything up, away or in it’s proper place yet.
This box has panels of patchwork Chinoiserie embroidery for bed drapes in terrace room, the hand mirror from my silver dressing table set, hand made beads, some silk tassles and tie-backs and the heavy damask door curtain for the tulip room.

Oh Yum! As much as I enjoy food I enjoy fabric so much more and I can imagine how wonderful those fabrics feel…(touching them gently, of course). Silver. So much richer than gaudy gold…
I consider this sort of activity as an anti-depressant. That term comes from a friend who would need some anti-depressant fudge when things went wrong. She asked me what I used and I told
her I opened a box of fabric and looked at them, one by one. That a world that has produced such things must have some good and kindness and beauty still in it…
I like old copper, too: the kind that seems to stay slightly pink with just a little attention.
The boxes such things are kept in may be ordinary but what they hold is treasures. Which is fitting, that the special should be kept safe within the commonplace.

I concur completely. And I also love old copper, pewter, tarnished silver.
I can live with old, paginated, dirty looking gold or brass too if the shape is right!

Isn’t it nice to unpack? I went through ages of visiting my stuff, just to remind myself why I got into this project. I’d look and imagine it out and think oh, okay. I remember now. It’s an essential part of the process.

I think we will all enjoy having a peek in those boxes. How can you remember what you have for each room? Sounds like each one will have some special touches.

I don’t remember everything, especially stuff I squirrelled away years ago, but it’s fun rediscovering it.
