Episode 156 – Bois patiné peint #1

Do you remember this post eons ago? doors post

In the interests of reusing and recycling where possible we repaired the hideous flush brown bedroom doors and frames and I got Trev to panel them in Languedocienne style. Then they got put back for a million other priorities, then we finally got back to them.

Also eons ago I posted about these four resin panels, moulded over the original hand carved wood that I bought in UK, guessing that they would fit the proportions of these two doors. They did. But they were really hard to attach.

I had to use a strong version of Trev’s magic mix and bake them off on the terrace in the high heat last week. Then we painted, clear waxed and antique waxed them. If you want details I will do a follow up post.

So pretty! I am really enjoying the time and effort you put into the details in your home.

    • I think that if you are going to go for a major restoration you have to consider the details too. I have seen so many do-up jobs with ill considered finishing touches. We won’t be doing this again so it needs to be just right

But I agree that you deserve a TV show.

Nice. Way nice. On one hand I’d love details. I love getting all geeky with this stuff. On the other, I find myself wondering whether you might not want to monetize all these trade secrets. I’m reading a lot of Monty Don these days. He keeps saying he’s self-taught and he has TV shows and books and stuff. Why not you and Trev? There must be a way. Seriously, what you guys have been doing looks brilliant.

    • Well we will monetize them when the opportunity arises.
Right now all I can do is guide. Better if I give the lessons in person really. Unless someone wants to give me a publishing deal on making the fabulous from the unlikely

I’m sure Monty would agree. As soon as I am willing to admit that my black thumbs will never become green, I will too. Don’t even get me started on the kinds of work you guys do…
