I hate these sapele sixties doors. They were everywhere in the house when we acquired it. They are no use for repurposing any place and we can’t chop them up and throw them in the wood burner, so they’ll have to go to the dump.
They have done the job of protecting stuff from the builder’s dust and rubble for several years but the first floor is mostly muck-free now so they can GO!
Behind them is a deep old cupboard inset into the two foot thick walls. Lined in ancient lime plaster it has some nice terrazzo inset shelves we will keep, plus two vile chipboard ones which will be joining the grotty doors at the dump.
These doors never closed properly so we held them together with this old stirring stick. I am almost nostalgic about this bit of rubbish; shall we give it a Viking funeral on the river?
I love the title of the post. I can almost hear Michael Caine saying it 🙂

Ah this is how I feel about the aluminum siding over my cornice and those yellow awnings! Can’t wait! Except I will wait probably until Spring 2017.

Viking funeral? This could make the local news, I feel! I actually rather enjoy throwing things in those huge bins at the dechetterie and the man there is almost family now …. I imagine yours is too!

Yes. And he wears a “muscle” vest summer and winter. He is also of the opinion that Madame should not be chucking stuff in the bins herself and insists on wrestling things off me so he can jettison them himself.

That’s how he builds up his muscle, of course 😉

That must have been so satisfying. I can’t wait to see the new panels. Please post photos!

Part two post coming tomorrow. They are exquisite, even better than I remember( bearing in mind that some of our stuff has been packed up for nine years!!)

Oh, those are so bad. Removing those must have made you so happy! Now of course we all want to see the replacement, which will no doubt be given your usual exquisite finish treatments.

The cupboard will be framed, not shut off. I have just unwrapped the curved 18thc panels we will mount tomorrow. Utterly beautiful they are.

Amusing that you held the doors closed with the old stirring stick – as if it were a bolt across a pair of dungeon doors!
