The Thursday Three – And a lesson in staying open minded about your restoration plans

copper washbowlI thought I had it sussed out in the salle d’eau off the cave bedroom

I had bought a smoky glass bowl and an Art Deco style stand for that room. Plus the tap, plus the waste.

I liked it, I still do, but at the back of my mind was a niggle.

Then we walked into Homesense yesterday and it was love at first sight with this copper bowl. Zoom in on the price in the photo-below left- yes, that’s right.

beaten copper basinHang on, it looks rather good sitting on that Indonesian table where it got dumped last night….hmmm… and there’s room for the waste below-watch this space

Meanwhile, the other two pieces are paintings- subtle and beautiful and very old pen and gouache in black frame- trees, I love trees.

And this mid 19thc watercolour/gouache painting in a perfectly aged and battered frame, I will stabilise the bits dropping off and leave it exactly like that…probably

There are so many treasures around here. People just aren’t interested in old stuff. They all want the same Keep Calm and Carry On poster.
