Cafe culture in lovely Limoux

Now, regular readers know that we like our cafe culture and the opportunities for people and place watching that it affords. You have to love a place with a climate that allows you to indulge in this hobby outside for much of the year.

The ( perhaps unintentional ) cabaret in Limoux is great

cafe cultureLimoux is a beautiful and very French town a few kilometers north of our village. It’s so well documented I won’t do a travelogue, but here is a good overview to wet your curiosity.

It has a world famous three month carnival, excellent fizz (blanquette/cremante) a couple of curious niche galleries and a very fine Art collection at the Petiet museum, dedicated principally to works from the second half of the 19thc and a fine example of Limoux’s mix of both ancient & Belle Epoque charm.

Here’s Trev enjoying the “fin du siècle” vibe of our favourite Grand Cafe on the main square=below- And how about this newly renovated gem right on the square for a bolt hole in town?-bottom right

I think one of the absolute best things about living in France is the ability to find a cafe, take a cafe and just be. This looks like the perfect placer to exercise that right!
