Sunday lunch at Cases de Pene.Restaurant L’Egrappoir

imageRunning late en route to Argeles (nothing new there) we have stopped for lunch in a small village on the D117 north of Perpignan.
I am having calamari a la Romaine. Trev is having the house duck dish.
This restaurant is so low key from outside and barely signposted, but is very civil, beautifully and sparsely decorated and service and food and wine is worthy of several stars.
The chef , a real Anglophile, has just come out to say hello and chat to us.restaurant l'egrappoir

That’s the real France, all over France are these modest places worthy of etoiles a-plenty but just doing their thing. And even here in the sticks of beyond they are perfectly happy to welcome les Anglais – no partisan behavior. On my own as I mostly am I am actually happy to eat out – which I never am particularly in England Enjoy the squids. 🙂
