renovation, restoration, deprivation..2011
Dreaming and planning is just about all we can do this year, as Spring brings another shock..
Having been lured ( not entirely unwillingly!) away for my safe Civil Service job, my boss has now decided to close the branch I work at and we are all made redundant. Like many today we rely on two incomes and with two French properties to renovate and run, this is not the best timing.
My faith in human nature is restored when some of my clients decide to follow me and practically beg me to set up my own service. My area is highly specialised so there is a fair chance that, given time, I may at some point in the future be able to build up enough business to achieve the income I was enjoying until this latest bombshell . For now we have to tighten our belts till they squeak and there isn’t a penny to spare for kitchens and bathrooms or indeed anything else for the foreseeable future.
We will soldier on utilising the materials we have already stockpiled and looking even harder at what we can recycle and restore. We search for the cheapest flights, as when we are in France we spend less on food & fuel ( partial lighting and less need for heating due to warmer weather is the ultimate economy!)
Once more, it is “grit your teeth and get on with it” time. We can’t give up now.
